Formula 1 is set to welcome a new team in the 2026 season. The American outfit Cadillac, led by former driver and F1 champion Mario Andretti, will officially join the grid.
The announcement was made this Friday (March 7) by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA).
In a joint statement, the FIA and Formula 1 confirmed the agreement, celebrating Cadillac's entry into the pinnacle of motorsport.
"The FIA and Formula 1 can confirm that, following the completion of their respective sporting, technical, and commercial evaluations, the application from General Motors and TWG Motorsports to bring a Cadillac team to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship from 2026 has been approved," the statement read.
A Long Road to the F1 Grid
Cadillac"s entry into Formula 1 comes after a two-year negotiation process. Initially, the team aimed to compete under the Andretti name, which is already established in Formula E and IndyCar.
However, the bid faced resistance due to disagreements between Michael Andretti, son of Mario Andretti, and Formula 1 management. Michael was originally leading the F1 project but struggled to gain approval from the series.
With the new agreement in place, Cadillac is set to bring an American presence back to the grid, adding excitement to the 2026 season.
